And the Winner Is...
Through the years, I’ve met a lot of really amazing Michiana moms. The stories and the history are truly amazing.
Then I met the 2009 FAMILY Magazine’s Mommy Makeover winner, Beth Clark.
Beth should write a book. Her story of strength as a mother is inspiring. As a single mom of two children (a nine-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son), Beth has had to go through things that most of us only see in the movies. Beth’s determination to keep her family safe, make hard decisions, and do what it takes to protect her kids has left me in awe.
Beth is both mom and dad to her kids, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. In her words, “getting here was hard, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”
I was so excited to give Beth a day of pampering, to show her that SHE is important and that she deserves to take some time for herself. One of my rules is all big shopping days should start with caffeine, so our makeover process started with a meeting at Panera. Beth and I talked a lot about her background, how she got to where she is today, her daily challenges and what her goals are. From there, we made a shopping plan of attack!

Eye Site Optical
Beth and I had so much fun trying on all the great sunglass options at Eye Site. I have decided that Eye Site is the best kept secret in Michiana! They carry the high-end brands you just can’t find around here, but guess what! Eye Site has them (and at great prices)!
Beth picked out a pair of snazzy Betsy Johnson sunglasses…I am a little jealous, I love them! They are a perfect color and shape for her face. With a little style for her eyes, we were off to find some great outfits to go with her sassy new shades.

Flourish Boutique
After a conversation with Beth about her style, we determined that her style can be best described as “Casual Feminine.” Flourish Boutique is the perfect shopping location for this style! Beth has summer events planned, some graduations and parties. First on the agenda was to find a summer dress. We found a beautiful a-line dress done in cotton sateen in a cool sea blue and white. Perfect for summer!
Next on the list was to find a great summer date-night outfit. For Beth’s shape, I suggested she really concentrate on bringing attention to her waist. She has a teeny tiny waist, so she should show it off! We looked to current trends and found a white jean by Pure Color and paired it with a beautiful black top with some corset details. She looks stunning in this outfit! These pieces are so versatile. Beth will be able to get a ton of use out of her new clothes!
I created an online Style Sheet for Beth. This will be a good reference tool for her to remember all of her specific style rules; she will be able to see what to wear, what not to wear, and she will also be able to access customized diagrams of clothing that represents the best options for her shape.

Sally & Company
I warned Beth that she would LOVE Sally at Sally & Company. You have to! Sally’s style is so warn and inviting. Every new client who walks in her door walks out a friend with a great new hair-do! The first order of business with Beth’s hair was the color. Sally suggested taking Beth’s color to a warmer hue; this brought out the beauty of Beth’s eyes and skin tone. Sally also helped Beth find an updated style. Beth’s new do is one with an edge of complete sophistication, but with the practicality that is necessary for a single Mom!

Linton’s
Beth decided to take her Linton’s gift certificate and make a mommy-daughter shopping day with it! Beth and her two kids were in for such a surprise! They never thought they would have so much fun shopping at Linton’s! In Beth’s words, “wow! They seriously have about everything at the new store!” Beth was able to find a beautiful piece of jewelry to add to her great outfits from Flourish…and her kids found some Webkins!

Dr. Madder
One of the quickest ways to freshen up your look (without cosmetic surgery) is tooth whitening. A clean fresh smile will take years off your appearance, almost instantly! Dr. Madder just wanted to bring some sparkle to Beth’s already beautiful smile.

CrossFit
Jim at CrossFit is so excited to meet with Beth and get her started on a personal training regime. Beth will receive a free nutrition consultation, a weeks worth of eating plans and a grocery shopping list as well as a free one month free membership to CrossFit Michiana.
This was truly a shopping-makeover day to remember. For someone who gives so much to others, it was an amazing experience to show Beth just how much she deserves to take some time for herself. It’s a lesson all moms need to take to heart!
