The Feng Shui Blue Print: Part III Fame and Reputation

Moving across the bagua, we come to the rear middle of the map, the Fame and Reputation center. This area is at north and center in every home, and if you wish to further layer this energy, north and center in every room. The Fame and Reputation center has an immense impact on the way people perceive you, as this area is associated with both your character and image. You can use this region of the bagua to transform and improve your current reputation, or you can work towards becoming recognized for something completely new. Enhance this area when you want more recognition, when you want to establish a good reputation, or when you would like to be well known for something you do.

The most important thing to do before you energize this center is to become clear about how you want to be seen and the image you wish to portray. Think about what you want to be known for, and what you can place here to help symbolize that vision. Make sure that it is who you want to be, not who others wish you to be. Once you have a clear visualization, you can begin the process of enhancing this corner.

What to avoid:

  • Bathroom: like Wealth and Prosperity, you don't want to have your Fame and Reputation swirling down the toilet; implement all bathroom strategies recommended from previous articles to help minimize losses
  • Water: simply put, water puts out fire; remove any fountains or water features from this center to the Wealth or Career centers where they are beneficial; also, be sure to avoid symbols of water such as rain, snow, oceans, lakes or rivers
  • Negative symbols: remove all objects, photos, art, and books that do not represent how you wish to be known from this area; clear away items representing people or situations with negative, corrupt or questionable reputations (not the best area to store your six season disc set of The Sopranos)

What to employ:

  • The color red is used to activate the fame and reputation center; everyday objects with red as the predominant color should be displayed here; orange and green are the secondary colors of this center and can be used as well

  • The main element of this area is fire, with the secondary element being that of wood (wood fuels fire according to the element's creative cycle); fire illuminates you, your characteristics, and your accomplishments and "its flames" spark new ideas and aspirations helping to motivate you in new directions. When someone is referred to as "being on fire," it usually means they are succeeding in a sensational way and that they are at the peak of their potential. Use elements of fire to energize this area: you are in luck if you already have a fireplace situated in this area, but if not, place candles, incense, or lanterns here; also, place any objects made from wood; tall, healthy living plants contain a strong element of wood (in their stems and branches) and make excellent enhancers

  • Place objects that are in the shape of a pyramid, triangle or cone

  • Hang a painting or photograph with red as the dominant color and display it in a frame constructed of wood; you can also use images of fire, the sun or light

  • Display diplomas, awards, trophies, certificates of recognition, or any symbols of success; if you are modest about displaying your achievements, place them behind a hanging picture, within a cabinet, or hide them behind or under a piece of furniture

  • Display physical symbols of a future goal

  • Use a lot of lighting in this area; big bright lights, spotlights, crystal chandeliers, or twinkling lights; floor lamps that project light onto the ceiling are especially beneficial; also, you can place a red bulb in one of the lights for some extra "feng shui umph"

  • Place environmental anchors of people you think highly of and want to emulate; this can anyone you respect and admire and with whom you wish to be identified

  • Utilize your manifestation board! Accessorize your board with reds and oranges, create a collage of how you wish to be seen in the world, add photos and quotes of people you admire and projects you wish to be involved in, add power words that will catapult your mind into believing: manifestation + visualization = actualization

  • Write your intentions for how you desire to be known, both now and in the future.

Every day, your words, actions, and behaviors mold the way people view you, working to define your reputation. Regardless of what has transpired in your past, you now have the opportunity to create a new perception of yourself. So, what do you want to be known for more than anything in this lifetime? What is your idea of fame? What is your idea of reputation? You, as a person, are continually being defined over time, and there is no moment like the present to shine your light and begin to "walk your talk." With your good intent, fame and reputation will be following right behind you.
